The new caravan is being rebuilt internally to make it more suitable for its rask. The assistance of the ladies who prepare morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is much appreciated. A strange place to sleep! Actually it's Dale Adamski preparing to unbolt the water tank from the caravan. Peter Culley pantomimes the correct way to start the water pump. He was injured recently but still turned up to keep the crew on task. The hose was used to clean the water tank but it was revealed to be full of holes. Does anybody have a good water tank for a caravan that they could DONATE?

28 members attended the September meeting where they had the opportunity to hear from 10 Council candidates. They exchanged ideas and answered questions in a manner which was productive and improved our good working relationship with Council.

Doug Booker, our "official" photographer took this pic and most unkindly captioned it "Butt Out". As the excavator / sleeper grab was u/s, the opportunity was taken to carry out some maintenance and safety work on some plant. Oil and filters were changed, safety gear checked and replaced, brakes adjusted and here - a rotating beacon was fitted to the tractor. To get 360° viewing, the non-functional air conditioner was removed from the roof.

Dale and Vice President Ross tackle some drilling for spikes. Dale spent most of this work session on the jack hammer - a mighty relief to some of the older operators! Arthur fetches the new petrol jack hammer which had a few teething troubles but it will be serviced for future work gangs.

This sequence of 3 shows Tim "MacArnison" demonstrating his skills at caber tossing in true Highland style. In photo 13 [Doug Booker pic] he has selected a smaller training caber but graduates to the full blown model in photo 14 (with a few spares in case of breakage). The ironbark model in photo 15 is proving a little difficult to grasp - perhaps more training is needed?....

...anyway he has launched them under the line and the boys are busily spiking them before he gets any more wild ideas. Tony leads the rush for morning tea - always gratefully received by the work crew. Graham Williams is a frequent worker all the way from Bargo and his assistance is much appreciated. It's almost impossible to get a pic of Graham but he was on the end of a crowbar here and couldn't get away.

Tony Thackray bought his 1968 Austin truck out to carry sleepers. What a great sight to see a "period" vehicle appropriate to use in the heyday of the line. This truck is extremely original including paint work as it was delivered to a Bush Fire Unit and received very little use. Pete assembles the sleeper grab which was kindly fabricated by Moorhead Engineering and Oberon Engineering. All we need now is for the excavator to be taken off the "sick list".
